When Athrun Zala was younger, his mother died in the Bloody Valentine Tragedy along with other countless victims. His father, Patrick Zala, is the head of the ZAFT council. Athrun pilots the GAT-X303 Aegis Gundam for the ZAFT forces and is politically engaged to pop icon Lacus Clyne. It is also evident that Athrun is being paired with Cagalli Yula Athha.Athrun told Kira when they were still kids that he didn't like the idea of war, which was quite ironic considering his role in the ZAFT forces.
Apparently, Athrun has a talent for making mechanical objects, such as Torii and Lacus' army of Haro's. ^^;

When Cagalli revealed Athrun's real identity, Dullindal took interest in him and invited him to become a member of FAITH.
