Kira is struggling to stay awake. It’s hard, with the dim lighting and the warm haze that fills the room, and his vision is fuzzy around the edges as he stares at the page. His laptop hums quietly beside him, punctuated by Athrun’s steady breathing. Athrun is always prepared; he never leaves studying until the night before, but then, he also picks up on concepts easier than Kira does.
‘The Plants are an engineering miracle, constructed …’Violet eyes fall shut.
It’s a few hours later that Athrun wakes up, greeted with the image of Kira hunched over the tabletop, the glow of the laptop’s screensaver washing over his pale skin. Athrun stumbles out of bed and over to where his friend is sleeping, rubbing bleary eyes before shaking Kira’s shoulder and mumbling, “Kira, wake up.” The other boy just whimpers, squeezing his eyes shut tighter.
There really is only one option. Athrun loops his arms around Kira’s middle, snaking hands up under the boy’s white tee and drawing lopsided circles over his stomach, short nails brushing sensitive skin. Kira gives an unflattering snort. He’s wakes to Athrun’s delirious laughter, which rises only to crash against Kira, assaulting his ears in the silence of the night. He gives a groan and shoves Athrun away from him, his own laughter bubbling up when the navy-haired boy finds himself on the floor.
“You’re suppose to be studying,” Athrun finally manages to gasp, resting a hand on Kira’s knee and giving his friend a stern look.
Kira is sheepish. “Guess I fell asleep.” His hand finds Athrun’s, fingers meshing as he helps his friend to his feet. Now Athrun towers over Kira, and his firm gaze makes Kira go red –he knows what Athrun is going to say next.
“Do you want me to help you?”
“N-”
Athrun places a hand over Kira’s mouth. Violet eyes blink once, twice, and settle on Athrun with a startled expression. The monitor glows a harsh white as Athrun’s wakes the computer, pulling the book closer to him and leaning over Kira’s shoulder to read. Kira doesn’t know whether to be embarrassed or grateful, but his cheeks are warmer than they were a minute ago, so he bows his head to hide the fact from Athrun, fighting to hold back the smile that wants to consume his face.
