Kira Yamato: Gundam SEED
Kira Yamato, the main protagonist of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed, is what is called a Coordinator, or a genetically enhanced human. Kira is the only coordinator fighting for the Earth Alliance using the GAT-X105 Strike Gundam, one of the secret weapons developed by the Earth Forces and was hidden in Heliopolis, a supposedly neutral colony in the nation of Orb.He was in a relationship with Fllay Alster, although I don't know if I should really be considering it "romantic", considering that Fllay wanted him to fight to his death because that's the only way Fllay could forgive him for her father's death. *sweatdrops*
There are also hints that he likes Lacus Clyne, who in turn is engaged to Athrun.
Throughout the series, it is evident that Kira does not really want to pilot the Strike, but he is forced to do so in order to protect his friends who are on the side of the Naturals. Thus, he is caught in a battle between his fellow coordinators of ZAFT and his best friend Athrun Zala.
